ASMTP

Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals (ASMTP)

An employer-led route for Mainland residents with special skills, knowledge or experience needed in Hong Kong.

ASMTP

Mainland Talents and Professionals

ASMTP focuses on a genuine role, the applicant-role fit, the Hong Kong employer’s business need and the local value of the relevant skills or experience. It is not an independent points-based application without an employer.

Who it fits

  • Mainland residents hired by a Hong Kong company for a role matching their specialist skills, knowledge or experience.
  • Applicants able to demonstrate the match through education, professional credentials, projects or industry experience.

Application structure

  • The Hong Kong employer normally participates in the filing, and the role, duties, remuneration and company evidence should be consistent.
  • The applicant should prepare evidence of education, work history, professional capability and relevance to the role.

How it differs from GEP and TechTAS

  • ASMTP and GEP use similar core employment considerations, but cover different applicant circumstances and filing arrangements.
  • Where the employer and role fall within designated technology research arrangements, TechTAS should also be compared.

Extensions and long-term residence

  • Extension and change-of-employment arrangements depend on the conditions of stay, employment circumstances and current policy at the time.
  • Seven years of continuous ordinary residence may support a separate permanent resident verification, but ASMTP does not grant that status automatically.
